Is your organization using video to communicate with your audience? Are you capturing highlights of your events to entice people to come next year? The use of video for online marketing is growing and is expected to grow by 20% in 2009. Videos produced range from simple home style movies to professionally edit videos.

I can’t tell you how video fits into your association or conference marketing plans, but what I can tell you it’s not as difficult and expensive as you may think. If you have some technical skills and a few hundred bucks, you can easily be capturing the experience.

Here are five different ways associations are using video.

American Society of Association Executives (ASAE)
Capturing highlights from their 2008 meeting as well as video interviews with association executives in their “This Week in Associations Vodcasts

CFMA Conference 2009 Las Vegas
Promotional video to promote upcoming event.

American Watercraft Association West Coast Freedom Ride 2008

Creating a video isn’t rocket science (our experience with video)

The Omnipress staff jumped into video production for less than $1000. We bought a very nice camcorder (Sony HDR-SR11), and purchased Cyberlink Power Director to edit it ourselves.

Our first experience was the ASAE Secret Session where we recorded the debate between Jeff De Cagna and Terrance Barken on “The impact of social media and associations.” We broke it into short segments to make it easy to share and had more than 1050 views over a 30-day period.

Back here in the office, I decided to use the camera to allow our account reps to show just how talented they really are. I draped holiday decorations in an office and set up a karaoke machine. Each rep sang a favorite holiday song. After a few hours of backroom editing, I sent out the videos as the Omnipress holiday card. What a hit… These videos were viewed over 4000 times!!! And just recently, I captured our rep, Jodi Ray, in an interview style video sharing her experience at the Holiday Showcase.

Using video was a great way to engage the people who read our blog and eNewsletters.
